LIFE HISTORY Konrad Lorenz was born on November 7, 1903 in Vienna, Austria. As a child, his parents were quite wealthy and kept a large home. His interest in animals was brought about when his father brought him home a salamander. At the age of ten, after reading a book on evolution, Lorenz decided to become a paleontologist. As a boy, Lorenz had a wide variety of animals, includ ing fish, dogs, monkeys, insects, and most importantly, ducks and geese. In school, he was taught Darwins scheme of evolution and natural selection. Lorenz was interested in aquatics and enjoyed canvass crustacea.
